Never tell me the odds!

So, I found out today that there were 92 applicants to Brown’s RUE programme last year, and 4 were accepted. That’s a 4.3% chance of getting in. eep! To put it another way, that’s ~0.7% worse odds than that of a PhD student getting a faculty position. What makes it better is they have no application papers ready, so I’ve no idea how to impress them.

Well, talk about incentive for generalized anxiety. I have found out who sits on the admissions committee, and one of them is an associate professor in ecosystem biology, so maybe I can chat her up on the pretext of discussing my cellular automata simulator of relatedness values…
